KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB-Karachi) has filed corruption reference against ex-Deputy Commissioner Malir and others for illegal transfer of 29 acres of government land.
A press release of the NAB said here on Monday that the Corruption Reference was admitted under Number 1 of 2019 by Accountability Court Karachi in which it was charged that 29 acres of Govt’s land in Scheme 33, Karachi was grabbed by the accused persons by insertion of fake and fraudulent entries in revenue record which was masterminded by accused Javed Iqbal in connivance with revenue officers. The accused launched illegal housing project “Al Raheem Villas” on the said land which was further fraudulently sold to the general public by Javed Iqbal, Amir Ali and Irshad Khaskheli.
Accused Qazi Jan Muhammad the then DC Malir District fraudulently issued sanads of a fake village named “Abdullah Shah Ghazi Goth” Block F-II, for the same land thus facilitating land grabbing by his accomplices. Such Sanads were issued to the general public to give legal cover to the illegal project raised on the said land. Accused Qazi Jan Muhammad, Iqbal Awan the then Mukhtiarkar, Ibrahim, Abdul Latif Brohi the then Mukhtiarkar and Iftikhar-ud-Din were arrested and currently under judicial remand. Whereas the accused Javed Iqbal has been arrested in a separate case.
7 militants dead in clash in N. Afghanistan
MAIMANA: Seven militants were killed and four others injured as clash erupted in Garziwan district of Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province on Saturday, an army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.
According to the official, the clash erupted early morning after the militants attacked some security checkpoints, and security forces retaliated forcing the militants to flee after leaving seven bodies behind, and four others injured. There were no casualties on security personnel, the official said.
Student commits suicide
FAISALABAD: An 8th class student committed suicide over poverty, in the area of Jaranwala police station.
Police said on Saturday that Kashif son of Arshad, a resident of Chak 7 Jaranwala returned home from school and demanded a meal.
His parents could not arrange a meal for him due to poverty. After being upset, Kashif committed suicide by jumping before a running train. The police handed over the body to his parents after completing necessary formalities.
Israeli forces shoot, injure 8 Palestinians
GAZA: Israeli forces on Friday opened fire on Palestinians taking part in the weekly anti-settlement protests in the blockaded Gaza strip, injuring 8 demonstrators, including a child, according to health ministry.
“Israeli soldiers raided the demonstrators with tear gas, live bullets and rubber-coated steel rounds as they were participating in the Great March of Return protests”, it said.
Israel has stepped up attacks in Gaza, which claimed over 295 Palestinian lives in 2018, marking the highest death toll since the 2014 Gaza conflict, many of them were shot during the March of Return protests, amid a deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave.
