ISLAMABAD: The officials of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) will give final explanatory briefing regarding ghost pensioners to the committee of Auditor General of Pakistan today (Monday).
The credible sources told media that comprehensive report regarding ghost pensioners would be prepared within a couple of weeks. The committee established on the directions of Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar would seek explanation from the management of NBP.
“The NBP president had disclosed before the Senate’s Standing Committee of Finance on August 18 that as many as 0.5 million ghost pensioners were getting pension from the bank. After his disclosure, the finance minister had constituted a committee,” the sources added.
The sources further told that in the interim report of the committee, the existence of ghost pensioners had also been confirmed and now the federal government had decided to verify all the pensioners. “In the first phase, most elder pensioners would be verified and this process could take two years, while in the second phase, the pensioners having age group of 70 to 80 years would be verified,” the sources added.
