ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s special aide on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said on Thursday that Pakistan is constructing the border gate at Torkham as it believes that effective border management is a key to enhancing security and checking infiltration of terrorists along the border with Afghanistan.
He was addressing during a briefing session at the National Assembly.
Aziz said that Pakistan will continue the construction work at the border gate and it will inform the Afghan authorities over the construction of the gate.
Commenting on the firing incident between Pakistan and Afghan forces at Torkham border, Aziz said that Pakistan has not violated any bilateral agreement between the two countries.
“This is part of the plan to strengthen border controls and regulate movements across the border,” he said adding that border management was important for both countries and there will be no compromise on it.
Pakistan has restarted the construction work on Torkham gate after the announcement of a ceasefire with Afghanistan.
