ISLAMABAD: While admitting the PTI and JI petitions, IHC’s Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir set aside the ECP’s postponement notification, and directed on Friday (30th of December, 2022) to hold the elections on Saturday (31st of December, 2022), there is no logistic support or staff available to hold the elections.
“The Election Commission of Pakistan is directed to hold the local government elections in the Islamabad Capital Territory as per the schedule already announced i.e. on 31.12.2022,” IHC ordered.
Federal govt has also been instructed to provide all support to ECP enabling it to hold the polls on Saturday.
It is pertinent to mention here that ECP had postponed the LG polls saying: “Keeping in view the legal provisions and the judgement of the Honorable High Court, Islamabad dated Dec 27, 2022, regarding the subject matter.
“Local Government Elections in ICT scheduled to be held on Dec 31, 2022, is hereby postponed for the time being.”
Govt had attempted to go to the IHC for intra-court appeal, but only the media related staff was present there, due to which the ECP failed to submit the intra-court appeal.
