Norway, Ireland and Spain, are set to formally recognize Palestine as a state on Tuesday (28th May, 2024).

Though 143 nations (green in the illustration) recognized Palestine, surprisingly no one had the resources/courage to stop genocide in Gaza.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris, hoping that other countries would also do the same, called the recognition of Palestinian state a historic and important day for Ireland.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez while speaking at the Parliament emphasized the importance of dignity for Palestinians.

PM of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre, while talking to journalists at a Presser held on Wednesday (22nd May, 2024), asserted that there could not be peace in the ME sans recognition, maintained that a 2-state solution was in the best interest of Israel.
“In the midst of a war, with tens of thousands killed and injured, we must keep alive the only alternative that offers a political solution for Israelis and Palestinians alike: Two states, living side by side, in peace and security,” PM of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre added.
Jonas Gahr Støre further stated: “Recognition of Palestine is a means of supporting the moderate forces which have been losing ground in this protracted and brutal conflict. This could ultimately make it possible to resume the process towards achieving a two-state solution and give it renewed momentum.”
PLO took to the X (Twitter) to hail the decision as: “Historical moments in which the free world triumphs for truth and justice after long decades of Palestinian national struggle, suffering, pain, occupation, racism, murder, oppression, abuse and destruction to which the people of Palestine were subjected.”

While Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the recognitions, Hamas termed the proclamation by Ireland, Spain and Norway an important step. Reacting to this historic development, Israel recalled its envoys from Norway, Spain and Ireland.
