One killed, 19 injured in Peshawar blast




PESHAWAR: According to police, one policeman was martyred and 19 other people were injured in two back to back remote control bomb blasts in Peshawar on Wednesday.

The two improvised explosive devices (IED) blast occurred in Mathra city of Peshawar.

“The first explosion targeted a police van, injuring two police personnel. One of them later succumbed to injuries during treatment in the hospital,” said a police official.

“The second blast proved fatal and caused more casualties when another IED went off close to the first blast site just half-an-hour later in the presence of policemen and media persons,” he added.

The injured were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the deadly attack in Peshawar.

He directed the concerned authorities to ensure special medical care to the injured.
