ISLAMABAD: PM Imran Khan, while talking to his Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte, on phone today held that developed countries could not deal with global economic recession without taking developing countries along as global challenge required a global and holistic response.
The two leaders spoke about a myriad of matters including Covid-19 pandemic. Imran Khan lauded Italy’s efforts to contain the mysterious respiratory disease that had infected people all over the globe . He told the Italian PM about the latest situation in Pakistan apropos coronavirus spread and measures taken by the Government to contain the virus-crisis.
Speaking about the importance of saving lives and livelihoods, Imran Khan told about the salient points of Pakistan’s modus operandi to handle both the challenges of health and employment. Italian PM was informed about Global Initiative on Debt Relief for developing countries. PM Imran Khan stressed on the need for a comprehensive plan of action to create fiscal space and strengthen economies. He also appreciated Italy’s support for the initiative.
PM Imran Khan shared profound concern over continuing double lockdown as well as the intensification of military crackdown by forces in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Criticizing India’s moves to alter the demographic structure of the occupied territory, PM Imran Khan called it a clear violation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and international law, including the 4th Geneva Convention.
Imran Khan stressed that the Indian government’s policies were posing serious threat to regional peace and security. He also highlighted demonization of Muslims in India in the context of mysterious respiratory malady caused by coronavirus. PM Imran Khan said this should be rejected by the international community.
Prime Minister Imran Khan once again invited Prime Minister Conte to visit Pakistan, once the Covid-19 situation improves. The two leaders agreed to remain engaged on all matters of mutual interest.
