Pakistan making efforts to enhance security situation in region: FM Qureshi

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan has been engaged in making all out efforts to enhance security and maintain peace in the region.

Addressing a two-day Envoys’ Conference titled “Engage Africa” here, Qureshi said that the countries in the region including Pakistan are facing challenges including security threats.

“Pakistan has always hoped for peace in the region and we have been engaged in maintaining peace. When there’s peace, the economy strengthens, and when the economy strengthens, countries see development,” Qureshi said, adding that Pakistan government and army always remain on same platform when it comes to enhance security and strengthening the economy of the country.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi told the participants that Pakistan army rendered services in many African countries for maintaining peace under the UN Peacekeeping missions.

Talking about Pakistan’s relations with other countries, Qureshi said that Pakistan was willing to promote defence and trade relations with African countries.

Commenting on the economic situation of the country and government’s efforts regarding boosting the economy, the foreign minister said that the government initiated economic diplomacy in order to enhance export and strengthen economy by undertaking efforts in various economic sectors.

Pakistan offers vast opportunities for investment: FM Qureshi

Earlier, FM Qureshi had said that Pakistan offered vast opportunities of investments in diverse fields including tourism.

Qureshi said that Pakistan highly appreciates its bilateral relations with the United States.

“Both [Pakistan and the United States] have jointly fought against increasing terrorism and challenges being faced by the region,” he said.

On the occasion, the delegation discussed matters related to mutual interest and the issue of Indian occupied Kashmir.

The FM  said India has put the peace of the region at stake by scrapping occupied Kashmir’s special status on August 5.

“Kashmiris are under continuous military siege from the last 58 days,” he said, adding that Pakistan is playing its constructive role in enduring peace and stability in the region.
