Pakistan to further strengthen relations with SCO: President

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain said on Friday Pakistan would contribute positively in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) objectives of security and economic cooperation.

He was addressing the participants of SCO Summit here in Tashkent.

“Pakistan aims to further strengthen its relations with the SCO after becoming a full member,” he said adding that Pakistan firmly believes that the path to regional peace and stability lies in economic connectivity and development.

The President underlined Pakistan’s contribution to the global and regional fight against terrorism.

Referring to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, President Mamnoon Hussain said: “CPEC as a lynchpin for regional economic integration and connectivity would bring the SCO a step closer to achieving its vision of regional economic integration.”

Talking about the ongoing operation “Zarb-e-Azb” in Pakistan’s tribal areas, he said that the operation has achieved phenomenal success and backbone of the terrorists had been broken and their main infrastructure dismantled.

President said Pakistan will continue efforts to eliminate terrorists from the country and all the misguided elements who are tarnishing the image of Islam.

A Memorandum of Obligations on behalf of Pakistan was also signed on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.

President Mamnoon Hussain along with other senior leadership participated in the plenary session of the Summit and held bilateral meetings with the Presidents of some of participating countries on the sidelines of the event.
