Middle East Politics

LONDON: High Court here has declared on Friday (13th Feb, 2026) that banning Palestine Action was unlawful.

London High Court Judges observed: “At its core, Palestine Action is an organisation that promotes its political cause through criminality and encouragement of criminality. A very small number of its actions have amounted to terrorist action.” While commenting on the ban they further noted: “The decision to proscribe Palestine Action was disproportionate.”

Nevertheless, pending appeal the ban has not been lifted immediately. Govt be appealing the judgment. UK’s Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, while expressing her disappointment by Friday’s ruling said she intended to appeal. It may be recalled that Palestine Action was proscribed in the month of July, 2025.

Palestine Action was accused of causing a million pound damage at the Royal Air Force’s Brize Norton Air Base in Oxfordshire. According to prosecutor agitators also hit a cop with a sledgehammer. Co-founder of Palestine Action, 31-year-old Huda Ammori (British citoyen having racines in Palestine & Iraq), said that the ban by government had backfired.

Palestine Action, that was founded five years ago, had carried out raids at a number of facilities associated with making weapons of mass murders. They mainly targeted sites of Israeli armament producers Elbit Systems in UK and left after leaving their message in red paint. Huda Ammori held that they stop manufacturing of the weapons used in genocide, instead of asking others to do so.

Tens of thousands of people had manifested against the ban. Three thousand protesters had been taken into custody for proclaiming “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action,” by means of placards.

Meanwhile, more and more developed countries in the world are recognising the State of Palestine including France, Canada and Australia.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin had said on 13th May, 2024 that China looked forward to Palestine becoming a full member of the UN and enjoying full and equal rights like other member states.

China urges relevant countries not to create obstacles for Palestine’s membership to the United Nations (UN), and not to continue to stand in opposition to the international community, international justice and human conscience,

Wang made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to expound China’s position on the issue of Palestine’s UN membership.

On 10th May, the UN General Assembly’s emergency special session adopted a resolution by an overwhelming majority, recognizing Palestine’s qualification for full UN membership, and recommending that the Security Council reconsider its application. China co-sponsored the resolution and cast an affirmative vote.

“The Chinese representative has already comprehensively elaborated our position in the interpretative speech following the voting,” Wang said, noting that independent statehood has been a long-cherished aspiration of the Palestinian people and full UN membership is a crucial step in this historic process.

He added that supporting and advancing the independence of Palestine as a sovereign state provides a strong guarantee for implementing the two-state solution and achieving lasting peace in the Middle East, which is also a strong call from the international community and a shared responsibility of all parties.

Wang said China supported the UN Security Council in reconsidering application of Palestine to join the UN as soon as possible in accordance with the requirements of the resolution.

The resolution makes further arrangements for participation of Palestine in UN activities and related meetings, granting new rights and privileges to Palestine these special arrangements are a remedy for the long-standing injustices suffered by Palestinians
