Panama probe: NBP president accuses JIT of mistreatment during interrogation

ISLAMABAD: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Saeed Ahmad has sent a letter to the Supreme Court accusing the members of Panama JIT of mistreatment during interrogation contrary to the orders of the apex court.

Ahmed, in his letter, alleged that the investigators misbehaved with him and adopted threatening and abusing behaviour towards him during the interrogation that made him feel as if he was a death row convict.

He also complained of grilling for over 12 hours by the JIT in three [consecutive] sessions during which he was made to wait for five hours after the first session.

Ahmad opined that the treatment was sheer violation of the apex court’s orders which guaranteed dignity to one being interrogated.

The letter by recently appointed NBP president has been written on June 5.

Saeed Ahmad made his first appearance before the JIT on May 30 and recorded his statement.
