PANAMAGATE: JIT winds-up the case as SC July 10 deadline approaches

ISLAMABAD: Pundits at the helm of affairs are of the opinion that probe vis-à-vis Panama Leaks, that is being carried out by six-member JIT, will ultimately remain inconclusive.

Though many are hoping a decisive ruling about the Prime Minister’s involvement in offshore companies, most are convinced that investigations will go on and on.

It is pertinent to mention here that SC has fixed 10th of July  as the deadline for submission of report.

Panamagate Probe: JIT summons Maryam Safdar to appear before it on July 5

ISLAMABAD: Six-member JIT that has to submit its report to SC on Monday July 10, apropos PM Sharif and his kids’ overseas investments, has summoned Maryam Safdar to appear before it at 11AM on Wednesday July 5. 

She has been summoned for questioning for the first time by JIT and has been asked to bring all the relevant documents with her. 

Maryam Safdar, 43, is presently in London to attend her son Muhammad Junaid Safdar’s graduation ceremony. 

It is pertinent to mention here that PM’s son elder son Hussain who has been questioned five times has been asked to appear before JIT on Wednesday 4th of July.

Second son Hussain will be facing the JIT for the fourth time on Monday 3rd June.

PM’s cousin Tariq Shafi too will be questioned for the second time  by JIT on Sunday 2nd of July.

ISLAMABAD: In a rejoinder to JIT’s allegations, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has maintained that JIT had error in comprehending the factual issues and misread the records. 

SECP has insinuated that witnesses might have misattributed statements in front of JIT under duress.

SECP has maintained that any statement attributed to theofficers may be the result of coercion.

ISLAMABAD: SC’s Justice Ijazul Ahsen has been quoted as saying that JIT alleged forgery was being carried out while altering the records in order to help PM family that is embroiled in the notorious Panama Leaks.

SC judge has remarked that those were serious allegations leveled by the JIT.

It is pertinent to mention here that JIT has submitted an application before the SC bench informing the apex court the problems they were facing in carrying out the investigation.

PSX: Panama Papers uncertainty and -ve economic data drags bourse down!

KARACHI: A number of factors contributed towards dragging the bourse deep in the red on the second trading day (20 June).

The benchmark KSE-100 Index shed 1,679 points due to a number of factors including: i) Domestic political uncertainty; ii) Global declining crude rates (seven month low); iii) Negative export related economic data.

Some Rs. 10.4 billion worth of 134.2 million shares were traded on Tuesday. Of the 391 companies, shares of only 32 gained, 19 remained unchanged while remaining declined.  

The trading was led by the Commercial banks, Power and Communication sectors: Bank of Punjab, 47.7m shares (-64.29pc); K-Electric Ltd., 25.1m shares (+0.43pc); Askari Bank, 13.9m shares (-4.82pc); Byco Petroleum, 9.9m shares (+0.89pc); Engro Polymer,  9.8m shares (-4.04pc).

PM House accuses PanamaLeaks JIT of shadowing the witnesses and tapping their phones!

ISLAMABAD: PM House has accused PanamaLeaks JIT of breaking the law by tapping phones and shadowing witnesses.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier JIT has accused a number of government institutions of tampering and forging documents in order to support the PM.

According to JIT, following the commands emanating from PM House witnesses were being instructed prior to grilling.

It has also been insinuated that at the behest of PM’s family confidential letters were being leaked to manipulate the investigations.
