Elections Act Amendment Bill passed

ISLAMABAD: Elections Act Amendment Bill (that harbors utilization of EVMs) has been passed here on Wednesday (17th of November, 2021).

Elections Act Amendment Bill is also aimed at granting voting rights to the Overseas Pakistanis: “Overseas Pakistanis are our most precious asset and their demand for right to vote is very just,” said FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

The joint session also passed the International Court of Justice (Review and Re-consideration) Bill, 2020 that was tabled by Minister for Law and Justice Dr Muhammad Farogh Nasim.

It was meant to provide for the right of review and reconsideration to bring into effect the judgment of the ICJ in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

Calling it an outstanding decision President Dr Arif Alvi Tweeted: “Outstanding decision by Parliament finally. I have been a proponent for technology both for EVMs & Overseas Pakistanis voting.”

Earlier PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while inviting the government for dialogue to evolve consensus over Election Act Amendment Bill stated: “We are ready to cooperate with you over legislation and steps to provide relief to the people of the country.”

Leader of the opposition Shehbaz Sharif addressing the Speaker said that the opposition would believe in his impartiality if he shunned his PTI membership.

Minister for Information Chaudhry Fawad Hussain took to the Twitter to hold that speeches of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari manifested their defeat.

FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi stated that the EVM would bury the evil intentions and designs of opposition to steal the vote of people.

The joint Opposition, that refused to accept the legislation saying govt lacked required votes, walked out. It proclaimed that it would go to the court of law in order to challenge the passage of the bill.

Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Bill, 2021 to curb augmenting rape incidents in the country has also been passed. SBP Banking Services Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021, that was tabled by Babar Awan, was also passed.
