LAHORE: Since the Prime Minister’s announcement to establish relief fund to fight the new deadly disease coronavirus, many have expressed support and donated financial aid. Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also announced that it has donated over Rs10 million in the fight against COVID-19.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board deposited PKR10,536,500 in Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund as part of its contribution in the fight against the pandemic,” a PCB press release read.
The handout further added: “The PCB had announced on March 25 that the centrally contracted players will make a collective contribution to the emergency relief fund, while the board will separately match the contribution of its staff.”
Chairman of the board, Ehsan Mani expressed gratitude towards the employees and the staff who contributed in the donation.
Pakistan Cricket Board is not in hurry to participate in any tournament as it believes that safety, health, and wellbeing of players, staff and officials is more important than anything else, says Wasim Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of PCB.
He said this while talking about the upcoming England tour which is likely to be postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Khan said that the cricket board would take any decision regarding Pakistan’s tour of England when it would be safe for the players to travel.
“We [PCB] are monitoring the situation. As we all know, COVID-19 has forced the world to cancel all activities and the sporting events around the world have been postponed, keeping in mind the safety of sportsmen and staff. We can’t take any risk and will see if it would be possible to play,” the PCB CEO said.
“PCB will always put the health and wellbeing of its staff, players and officials first,” he added.
Greens shirts are scheduled to play three Tests, three Twenty20 Internationals, and three One-day Internationals (ODIs) against England starting from July 30.
