LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday showed green signal to the opening batsman Ahmed Shahzad to get prepared for England tour.
According to a spokesperson, PCB Chairman Shahryar Ahmed told Ahmed Shahzad to get ready for the training camp ahead of England tour after discussion with Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.
“PCB has decided to pick him up in the team as there is no proper opening batsman,” said the spokesman adding that Shahzad will be given go ahead for England tour this month.
However, it is still unconfirmed decision as the PCB selection committee hasn’t given any kind of response to Shahzad’s selection.
The decision came after Ahmed Shahzad wrote a letter to chairman PCB in which he had assured the board of improving his discipline.
“I deserve the second chance in the team. I will not pass the comments over team discipline in the future,” said Shahzad adding that he will try to maintain the team discipline and focus on the game rather than other activities.
Earlier, PCB’s selection committee dropped Ahmed Shahzad and Umar Akmal for lacking the discipline.
Ahmad Shahzad, while playing Pakistan Super League (PSL), broke a window glass with his bat in the dressing room of Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium after failing to reach his half century.
Chief Selector Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Inzamam-ul-Haq said the players were dropped for lacking the discipline. Explaining the decision, Haq said that selection committee is totally independent and it has every right to decide about the squad.
Meanwhile, responding to the Selection Committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over dropping him, Shahzad said runs are more important to him than maintaining the team discipline.
“If anybody asks me to choose between team discipline and runs, I will definitely choose runs. Team discipline doesn’t make batsman proud, but runs do,” he said.
