PFUJ and IFJ welcome tabling of Journalists’ Protection Act 2021 draft for approval by assembly

KARACHI/LAHORE (Pakistan): GM Jamali, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Rana Muhammad Azeem, Secretary General, have expressed their satisfaction on tabling of the draft of Journalists’ Protection Act 2021 by Fed. & Provincial Governments for approval by the Assembly, after endorsement from the Cabinet.

PFUJ President GM Jamali and Secretary General Rana Muhammad Azeem noted that it would not only guarantee Journalists’ Freedom of Expression under Article 19 of the Constitution but would also help in ensuring their security, fair adjudication of cases in courts and solving of other issues.

The PFUJ leadership demanded that a former judge of SC or HC should head the Commission so that journalists’ problems are addressed in accordance with the Law.  President GM Jamali and Secretary General Rana Muhammad Azeem informed that PFUJ had consulted with the Brussels-based International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) that had cherished the draft.

GM Jamali and Rana Muhammad Azeem stated that PFUJ hoped that the Act presented in both the Federal and Provincial Assemblies would soon be endorsed and by following it in good faith Media Workers & Journalists’ predicament would be dealt with.
