PFUJ condemns cancellation of Channel 24 license

KARACHI: G. M. Jamali, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Rana Muhammad Azeem Secretary General have strongly condemned the cancellation of News Channel 24 license by PEMRA.

PFUJ leadership have demanded to restore the license of Channel 24 within 2 days and warned the government to avoid such undemocratic acts to gag its critics: “The PFUJ will stage country-wide protests if the license is not restored within two days”, they held.

The Channel 24 had been pointing out what it reckoned as the undemocratic policies of incumbent government. PFUJ has also urged International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to take urgent action and launch a worldwide campaign against suspension of News Channel 24 license.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Lahore-based News Channel 24 (having bureaus in major cities of Pakistan) is presently off-air. Its closure would render 600 Media Workers unemployed.
