PFUJ condemns PEMRA advice apropos filing Fed Cabinet News

KARACHI: G. M. Jamali, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Secretary General Rana Mohammad Azeem have strongly condemned PEMRA advice regarding filing news about Federal Cabinet on Wednesday 28th of April.

The PFUJ leadership maintained that such an advice tantamount to embargo on freedom of speech and expression which was not acceptable. President GM Jamali and Secretary General Rana Muhammad Azeem pointed out that media was duty-bound to provide information to the people and latest advice issued by PEMRA to not file any news about Federal Cabinet was an effort to gag media which was against the constitution of Pakistan, UN Charter and democratic norms.

“We oppose this advice and stage protest at every level against this. This is an attempt to snatch freedom of speech and expression which is against law of the land. Prime Minister Imran Khan should take notice of this and order to withdraw it otherwise the PFUJ will hold countrywide protest on May 3 and continue till the advice is withdrawn,” PUJ leadership held.

The PFUJ also urged International bodies to raise voice against this autocratic step and asked IFJ to join hands to run a worldwide campaign against such attempts to gag the voice of the citoyens.
