ISLAMABAD: PM Imran Khan, while addressing the nation on Wednesday (3rd of Nov 2021), has announced a Rs. 120 Billion subsidy package dubbed as ‘Pakistan’s Biggest Welfare Program’ for the next six months.
While cautioning the citoyens that the prices of petroleum products would be increased, the PM announced that for a period of of six months two crore (20 million) most vulnerable families will get 30% subsidy on Wheat, Ghee and Pulses. He called the Rs. 120 billion relief package the biggest welfare program in Pakistan’s history, and said it would ultimately benefit 130 million citoyens.
PM told that Kamyab Pakistan Program would support 40,00,000 families by means of interest-free loans enabling them to build houses, half a million rupees each to farmers enabling them to invest in agriculture in rural areas and half a million each to those living in cities to commence small businesses.
Earlier, lauding the Ehsaas program he said that now a data was available that shows the financial status of all the citizens. He pointed out that in a century humanity had not faced a bigger catastrophe than Coronavirus. He also appreciated the NCOC for its strategy made on the data available.
Imran Khan recalled when Modi-government locked the country down, Pakistan government was also pressurized to follow India. However, PM said that Pakistan’s stratagem to contain COVID-19 by means of small and smart lock-down was lauded and followed by many countries.
Informing that due to incentives offered by his government Rs. 600 billion worth of construction projects were underway in the country, Imran Khan said that PTI government had saved employment-generating construction and agriculture. He claimed that the farmers were prospering which is manifested by the 23% augmented use of Urea and sales of motorcycles and tractors.
Thanking China, UAE and Saudi Arabia for helping Pakistan steer clear through the pitfalls of default, PM Imran Khan said when his government took the reigns of the affairs the economic situation was very difficult. He grasped at the occasion to criticism the PPP-P and PML-N leadership and said he would reduce the prices of commodities if Sharif and Zardaris return the looted money to Pakistan.
Reacting to the PM’s announcement apropos the Biggest Welfare Relief, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has taken to the Twitter to state: “PM package is nothing but a joke. PM claims few families will benefit from 30%discount for only 6 months on Ghee, Flour & lentils. In 3yrs Ghee increased 108%, Flour 50% & Gas 300%. 30% is too little, too late for 200 million ppl facing historic inflation, poverty & unemployment.”
Senator Sherry Rehman held: “Bizarre speech by the Blame Minister of Pakistan. Says all the unprecedented inflation, tsunami of oil,gas prices, essentials is becoz of the past govts & international markets. PPP faced higher global oil prices over 130 $ per barrel but local petrol was half of today prices.”
Earlier, as a curtain-raiser Senator Sania Nishtar (SAPM on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection) tweeted: “The PM will be announcing details of Ehsaas Rashan today which was approved by Cabinet yesterday. I thank: NBP for their collaboration, MoF for advice on fiscal matters, PPRA for guidance on procurement modalities and all members of the Steering committee. More details to follow.”
