LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan Sunday directed the officers of the Punjab Anti-Corruption Department to take indiscriminate action against corruption and expose the corrupt elements.
Chairing a meeting of the Directors of the Punjab Anti-Corruption Department here during his visit, the prime minister said the government was prioritizing the revival of public trust on government departments that had been undermined by the corruption.
He viewed that the corruption was one of the major reasons behind the current economic condition of the country. The country had been dragged to the debt-trap by executing some of the projects in the past which had not been aimed at public welfare rather get the kickbacks.
The prime minister directed the anti-corruption department to improve its working and assured them of government’s all-out cooperation in their crackdown against corruption.
He also directed the department to reform the prosecution system as he desired them to support the poor man who is oppressed everywhere.

Relevant: Prime Minister Imran Khan said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police had been reformed by depoliticising it which later had also won the public trust.
He said the PTI had earned double the votes of the previous election because the provincial government had reformed the institutions by establishing the meritocracy.
He said it was the police that had rendered huge sacrifices for the elimination of terrorism and revival of peace.
The prime minister assured the audience that the government would give the government servants record space to let them work independently and without any political pressure. He also advised them to value and not to waste the opportunity.
He said the professionalism disappeared when the police got politicized and recalled an instance when a police officer in Hafizabad had been found electioneering for the PML-N.
The prime minister said the government needed the civil servants’ support to change the mindset and provide relief to the masses.
He, however, also warned of strict action against the officers who would violate the officials’ discipline and recalled that two district officers and a police officer had gone to the public instead of complaining to their top hierarchy against the politicians.
He said the political opponents of the PTI had spent around Rs 151 billion on advertisements during last five years whcih could not work and contrarily the PTI got double the votes.
Premier Imran Khan said despite an end to the colonial rule, the colonial mindset could not be changed in the country as was evident from the luxurious lifestyle of the rulers.
He said the PM House of a debt-trapped country owned a fleet of 80 luxurious vehicles and 524 servants contrary to the 10 Downing Street of UK where the rulers lived a simple life.
He advised the district administration to improve the working of police stations in their jurisdictions to provide relief to the poor and also suggested to hold open courts to address public complaints.
The prime minister said complaint cells would be established at PM House as well as the Chief Minister House to respond to the complaints of the common man.
He admitted that the government servants were drawing the salaries far below the standard but added that the country was going through the tough circumstances and the pay structure would be improved with the betterment of the situation.
