Pakistan Politics

LAHORE: Police here nabbed thirty activists, Tuesday (5th August, 2025), manifesting for former PM and PTI founder Imran Khan’s release, who was incarcerated exactly two years ago, convicted for corruption, and trials in terrorism cases.

Similarly, in the Kohlu district of Balochistan, when the PTI supporters converged at a designated point to protest, police took them into custody.

PTI took to the X to state: “An elderly like Rehana Dar is being dragged by the shameless Punjab Police, a disgraceful sight. Maryam Nawaz and IG Punjab have sunk to a new low with this act. Under this martial of Asim Munir, they have abandoned all sense of shame and decency!”

Again, by means of X, PTI claimed that Lahore Police had attacked its rally. It is pertinent to mention here that imprisoned Imran Khan, while asking the PTI activists to protest, said: “movement that commenced on August 5 will continue until democracy is restored in its true spirit”.

PTI attempted to protest against their leader’s 2 years of incarceration on 5th August. But local authorities had imposed Section 144 (under the Code of Criminal Procedure), by means of which public gathering, pillion riding and rallies till 10th of this month had been banned.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, Tehreek Tahafuz Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) chief Mahmood Achkazai, MNA Shandana Gulzar and a number of other activists marched at 3pm towards Adiala Jail but they were not allowed to proceed.

Earlier, PTI ‘s Aamir Mughal took to the X on 2nd Aug, to state, since Capital’s DC did not permit holding a workers’ convention here, they were commencing a peaceful, unarmed Gorilla struggle from 3rd August.

“The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad did not allow the rally, which is our constitutional and legal right. Starting tomorrow, Sunday, August 3rd, we are starting peaceful unarmed struggle with PTI volunteers. Together with a few youths, they will suddenly block a main road. They will convey Imran Khan’s message to the public and disperse before the police arrive.

“Our goal is to record the protest and protect the youth from arrest and violence, because arrest and violence are the weapons of this illegitimate government. After Islamabad, this series will be spread across the country and the protests will continue in this manner until Imran Khan is released. Insha Allah,” he posted.
