Private sectors now free to purchase own ships: Ali Zaidi

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Haider Zaidi has said the private sectors of the country are now allowed to purchase ships under their own name.

The minister said that the permission has been granted to the private sectors under the new shipping policy that has been announced by the federal government on September 18.

“Companies working privately are now free to get a Pakistani ship without paying any customs duty. The port will give facilities on a priority basis to the ships bearing Pakistan’s flag. The new shipping policy will create any issue of demurrage,” he said while talking to the media here today.

While commenting over the Karachi cleanliness campaign, Zaidi said that Sindh government and the Chief Minister has already accepted the presence of garbage in the province.

“The provincial government has machinery, resources and people to handle the deteriorated situation. I am grateful [to the Sindh government] for taking responsibility of garbage disposal,” he said.
