KARACHI: The PCB legal advisor has claimed that the evidence given by the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom has validated the fixing allegations against Pakistani batsmen Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif.
The two players were sent back from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on the second day after being suspended under the anti-corruption code by the PCB. The Board later suspended four other players in the case including left-arm pacer, Muhammad Irfan who is serving a 12-month ban after admitting to not reporting approaches by bookmakers, Muhammad Nawaz (who completed a two-month ban last week for the same offense), Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed.
NCA operations manager Andrew Ephgrave gave evidence to the three-man anti- corruption tribunal of the PCB via video link from London in the PSL spot-fixing case.
Talking to reporters after attending the PCB Anti-corruption Tribunal hearing on Friday, the cricket board’s advisor said that the NCA official’s statement proved that Sharjeel had not played the two dot balls on merit in the opening match of the second Pakistan-made cricket league.
“Cross-examining of both the lawyers in Sharjeel’s case had been completed and now they would submit their written replies before the tribunal,” he said.
