Professor Shahida Kazi passes away

KARACHI: Senior journalist, Professor Shahida Kazi breathed her last in the Civil Hospital here on Saturday (28th of October, 2023).

Her Namaz-e-Janaza will be offered at Jamia Masjid Faizan-e-Bismillah located at Sunny Side Road, Civil Lines, after Zuhar Prayers at 1:15 pm today (Sunday, 29th of Oct, 2023).

She will be laid to rest at Karachi University graveyard.

Shahida Kazi was born here some 80 years ago in the family of renowned scholar Allama I. I. Kazi.

Following her early edification from St. Lawrence Convent School Shahida Kazi graduated from St. Joseph’s College in 1963.

In 1966 she was offered a job at Dawn, Pakistan’s leading English daily that was founded by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Shahida Kazi had also worked for Radio Pakistan and as PTV’s news producer/senior news editor for 20 years.

Later, she joined academia, and taught at University of Karachi’s Department of Journalism/Mass Communication.

Following her retirement from KU she taught at public universities.

In February this year (2023), she launched her hundred-page autobiography, titled ‘Sweet, Sour & Bitter: A Life Well Lived’.

KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, terming her a loving teacher and a noble lady, lamented that with her demise a bright chapter of journalism ended.
