PSL 6: Shahid Afridi ruled out of remaining matches due to injury

KARACHI: Shahid Afridi, playing for Multan Sultans, will not be playing the remaining matches of PSL-6 due to a back injury he suffered on Monday 25th May, during training.

A statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Afridi was training in Karachi for the upcoming matches of PSL 6 — due to be played in Abu Dhabi next month — when he experienced pain in his lower back. Afridi was then examined by a doctor who advised him “complete rest”. Commenting on the development Shahid Afridi said that he was heartbroken as he was practicing and training for PSL’s matches really hard.” Nevertheless,  he said that his best wishes, support and prayers were with the team to win the trophy. Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that Shahid Afridi had been replaced by left-arm spinner Asif Afridi.

It may be recalled that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)  had acquired approval to complete the remaining twenty HBL PSL VI matches in Abu Dhabi. PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan, while thanking the UAE govt, National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Sports Council for their support and patronage in ensuring all final obstacles were removed, exclaimed: “We are delighted with this development as the remaining hurdles in the staging of the remaining HBL PSL 6 matches in Abu Dhabi have been overcome and all systems are now good to go.

“The PCB, in consultation with the team owners, will now work at pace to finalize all event-related arrangements, details of which will be shared in due course…The holding of the remaining matches in Abu Dhabi will allow our fans to once again follow and support their favorite players and teams through our high-quality broadcast coverage of one of the most competitive cricket leagues in the world.”
