PSP’s Anees Qaimkhani admitted to hospital

KARACHI: Senior political leader and President Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), Anees Qaimkhani has been admitted to the hospital from jail after he fell ill today (Thursday).

According to details, PSP leader was feeling pain in his shoulder and back for which he was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) Karachi.

Qaimkhani was arrested this month along with nominated Mayor for Karachi Waseem Akhtar, Muttahida Qaumi Movement senior leader Rauf Siddiqui, and Pakistan Peoples Party’s Qadir Patel after an anti-terrorism court rejected their bail plea in Dr. Asim Hussain’s case for providing shelter to criminals and terrorists.

On Saturday, an anti-terrorism court admitted Qaimkhani’s fresh application for bail and issued notices to the complainant and special public prosecutor, directing them to appear on July 27 and tender their arguments on the plea.

The court noted that after the rejection of Qaimkhani’s earlier bail plea on July 19, he was sent to prison. Later, his bail plea was moved to the appellate court (the Sindh High Court), which dismissed it on the grounds that it was the discretion of the trial court to hear the bail plea of an accused standing trial in an ATC.

The Qaimkhani’s counsel said that the authorities were digging up 15-year-old cases now, he said, adding that Qaimkhani had no links with terrorists.

Advocate Shaikh Sajid Mehboob, representing the Rangers in the case concerning charges the accused had provided shelter and medical care to criminals, said that it was the discretion of the trial court to hear such applications.
