PTI asks Naeem ul Haq to ‘clarify’ his statement accusing Kayani of influencing 2013 elections

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday said that Naeem ul Haque’s statement against former army chief General (retd) Ashfaq Pervez Kayani does not reflect party’s point of view on the matter.

The PTI spokesperson last night claimed in a TV show that General (retd.) Kayani had influenced 2013 polls in favour of PML-N.

Haq quoted a satire piece, published on April 1, which suggested that Imran Khan’s party was all set to win at least 60% seats from all over Pakistan, however, due to massive rigging by certain policy circles their mandate was stolen.

“It is all into our knowledge, there was nothing new in the published article. General Kayani, Saudi Arabia and the USA engineered the election in favour of Nawaz Sharif,” he claimed.

He further added, “The polls were stopped in middle of the night. ROs were pressured to follow the instructions.”

However, soon after the statement, PTI Chairman Imran Khan directed Haq to clarify that this was his personal opinion and does not reflect party’s point of view on the matter.

“My comments about General Kayani were my own and do not reflect party stance in any way, he said in a twitter message.

Reacting strongly to the issue, Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb also demanded apology from the PTI for accusing the former army chief without any proof.
