PTI-Govt In-Camera Meeting on 2nd January

ISLAMABAD: NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has convened an in-camera meeting of PTI and Govt representatives at Parliament House 11am Thursday (2nd January, 2025).

The upcoming meeting is a continuation of the rendezvous of 23rd Dec, 2024. Earlier, SIC’s Sahibzada Hamid Raza, PTI’s Omar Ayub Khan and Asad Qaisar (SIC) Sahibzada Hamid Raza held a Presser outside the jail informed that they had given 31st Jan 2025 as deadline for the talks. Sahibzada Hamid Raza informed the journalists that: “The cut-off date for negotiations is 31st January. On 2nd Jan, when our committee meets the government to continue the negotiations, Omar Ayub will formally give them this deadline.”

“This is the first time since 1971 that a political party has been victimised like this. The PTI’s fundamental rights were suspended, our members were tortured and our civil rights and human rights have been stripped. As a result, our call to halt remittances will remain in place.” The first round of parleys between Govt Committee and PTI Negotiation Committee was held here on Monday (23rd Dec 2024) with Speaker NA Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.

Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Syed Naveed Qamar, Abdul Aleem Khan and Dr Farooq Sattar formed the Govt Committee. Whereas, the PTI Committee harboured Asad Qaiser, Raja Nasir Abbas and Sahibzada Hamid Raza. Omar Ayub, Ali Amin, and Salman Akram Raja failed to participate in the discussion due to dates in courts or being abroad. PTI Committee will be presenting its charter of demands in writing on the next rendezvous scheduled to be held on 2nd January, 2025.

PTI had hailed, on Sunday (22nd Dec), the formation of Committee by the Govt on the suggestion of NA speaker to hold talks apropos Imran Khan’s call for civil disobedience if his demands including release of political prisoners and probing 9 May riots via Judicial Commission were not met. It may be recalled that Chairman PTI Barrister Gauhar called on NA Speaker Saturday (21st Dec) night maintaining that talks were the only way to figure out a solution to the current stalemate. He asked the speaker to play his role in this regard.
