Punjab Governor speaks at AIMC

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar today said that people who run after riches and wealth were mere mercenaries and could not be called politicians.
Addressing the 17th convocation of Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Lahore here, he said only a person with love for humanity and self-motivated business goals deserved to be called a political leader.
The governor said Prime Minister Imran Khan entered politics with the sole purpose of serving humanity, adding that the prime minister had dedicated his life for serving Pakistani people.
He said the government was investing in research and development, adding that “It is important to focus on research if we want to move with time and make progress.” He said revolutionary steps were being introduced in the health sector.
Sarwar said the government would ensure free access of poor people to the healthcare, adding that the federal government had launched “Aihsas” programme to eradicate poverty in the country and it was first of its kind socio-economic initiative to alleviate poverty.
He said health and education sectors were the top priorities of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) government besides providing relief to people in both sectors.
Commenting on the Indian aggression, Sarwar said peace was the first and foremost priority of Pakistan, adding that Indian forces were given a befitting response by the Pakistan armed forces. He said Pakistan was an atomic power and the enemy could not cast an evil eye on the country.
About the educational institutions of higher learning, he said political intervention in universities would not be tolerated at any cost, adding that the government was committed to depoliticizing the universities.
The governor announced a cash prize of Rs one lakh each from the Sarwar Foundation to young graduates Farhan Mustafa and Aroosa Kanwal of AIMC who secured record-setting 23 and 22 Medals, respectively, in the MBBS 2019 examination.
Farhan Mustafa bagged 23 medals with 11 Gold Medals while Aroosa Kanwal clinched 22 medals with 9 gold medals.
He also announced rupees one lakh cash prize for Dr. Royna Aslam who had secured 18 gold medals at the Punjab Medical University Faisalabad convocation last Sunday.
