Rahat Fateh Ali Khan becomes first Asian singer to receive Wembley Arena Award

LONDON: Renowned Pakistani singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has become first Asian singer to receive Wembley Arena Award.

Rahat, who was in the United Kingdom for his concert, was honored with the award by the organisers.

Oxford University honours Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with Lifetime Achievement Award

Earlier, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the prestigious Oxford University.

According to details, the Pakistani singer was invited to the two centuries old Holy Hall Academy of the world-famous university where he received the honorary shield.

Rahat, who is currently on a musical tour in the United Kingdom, also performed at one of the university’s most historic venues, the Holywell Music Room with the students of the university and the Fusion project.

The Holywell Music Room is “the oldest music room of Europe, made in the 17th century, which was specially opened up for Khan sahab,” shared his PR rep. “The biggest composers and musicians of the UK & Europe of the last three centuries have made music in that room. It’s historically a very prestigious place.”

Later in a tweet, the singer expressed his gratitude and said that he was deeply honoured to receive the award for his services to music.

“#honoured to receive #award from Oxford University. The fusion project students were amazing,” he tweeted.

Rahat is the first Pakistan to receive the award, which has previously been given to Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

No one could impose ban on art: Rahat

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan says that no one should be allowed to impose a ban on art.

“Art should always unite, never become the reason to divide,” Rahat said in an interview.

The Jag Ghoomeya singer also explained that the ban will not influence the arts.

“Yes, you can impose a ban on an artist and stop him from coming to your country, but you’ll never be able to suppress the voice of an artist.”

The 43-year-old further said that an artist makes his place everywhere despite borders.
