Rangers to stay in Karachi for 3 more months to ‘curb terrorism’

KARACHI: Sindh government has forwarded the summary of extension in special policing powers granted to the Rangers.

The summary, approved by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, recommends another 90-day extension in the powers granted to the paramilitary force under Section 4(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 within Karachi division.

The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh will now be able to exercise their special powers from October 13 to Jan 13.

The government had initiated the Rangers led targeted operation in Karachi in September, 2013, to curb terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, targeted killings and other heinous crimes in the port city.
