ISLAMABAD: Rescue activities in the earthquake hit areas will continue till next two days in order to ensure safe exit of stranded people, said Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt (gen) Mohammad Afzal in a news briefing here today.
“All the concerned departments will focus on rescue operations for next two days in the earthquake-hit parts including Azad Kashmir, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said, adding that the relief activities would start from next week.
Speaking on the casualties in today’s earthquake, Afzal said that he couldn’t confirm accurate number of dead people as rescue operation is underway.
“At this time, it is difficult to tell how many people lost their lives in the quake. Rescue operation is underway. We will issue the detailed report once the operation is completed,” he said and added that approximately over 150 people are injured.
Prime Minister expresses grief over sad incident, orders relief operation
Prime Minister Imran Khan was briefed about the sad incident during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. After hearing the casualties, the premier expressed deep sorrow and grief and directed the concerned authorities to leave no stone unturned in providing the best medical facilities to the quake victims.
He asked all the institutions to continue rescue and relief operation on an emergency basis.
