RIO OLYMPICS 2016: Brazil grabs men’s football gold beating Germany! Neymar scores the winning goal.

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil nosed out Germany by 5-4 on penalties to win its foremost men’s Olympic football gold medal here at the gigantic Maracana Stadium.

Both teams scored one each by the time game was over.  During additional time, first-half free kick from Brazil’s forward Neymar was negated by the strike of Max Meyer. German Nils Petersen had his penalty shoot-out that was saved by Weverton, prior to Neymar’s winning goal.

“This is one of the best things that have happened in my life. That’s it,” said the hero of that night Neymar.

Eventually, Brazil won over their rivals as they, at last, claimed the Olympic title before 78,000 Brazilians inside the Maracana.

Subsequent to winning, Brazilian footballer and Goalkeeper Weverton Pereira da Silva held: “This gold is ours, but it belongs to God. God loves Neymar like he loves all this team.”

While recounting the 2014 World Cup defeat by the Germans, Brazil coach Rogerio Micale said: “That was the World Cup, this is the Olympic team. Neymar never played in that match so there is nothing that could generate any type of feeling that we have to take revenge. It is a different time with different players and ages,” he added.

The stadium resonated with the chanting by the crazy crowd: “Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole, Ola, Neymar, Neymar.”

Back in 2014, Germany punched out Brazil by 7-1 in the World Cup semi-finals in Belo Horizonte. It is also pertinent to mention here that Brazil failed to win the Olympic title in 1984, 1988 and 2012 Olympics despite reaching finals.
