Romania wins 2 golds at European Canoe Sprint Championships

BUCHAREST: Romanian athletes won two gold and one silver medal at the European Junior and U-23 Canoe Sprint Championships in Auronzo (Italy) on Saturday.

In the junior women’s K1 1000 race, Laura Plesca won the gold for 00:04:10.025. Next came Czech Sofia Kinclova (00:04:10.381) and Denmark’s Helene Fabrin-Brasted (00:04:11.048). In the canoe-1 junior men’s C1 1000 race, Romanian Alexandru Patrascu finished 6th (00:04:12.398), while compatriots Cristian Baccela and Razvan Batagui finished 5th the canoe-2 junior men’s C2 1000 race (00:03:51.831).

In the Under-23 category, Catalin Chirila and Stefan Strat won the gold medal in the canoe-2 U23 men’s C2 1000 race (00:03:34.517). Following in the ranking were Belarusians Vladislav Lukashuk / Ivan Patapenka (00:03:35.084), and Spain’s Noel Dominguez / Gonzalo Martin (00:03:36.124 ). Leonid Carp won a silver medal for Romania in the canoe-1 U23 men’s C 1000 race, clocking in at 00:03:53.390, overtaken by Italian Carlo Tacchini (00:03:52.096).
