Ruckus in Parliament as President Mamnoon Hussain addresses joint session

ISLAMABAD: Shouts of “Go Nawaz Go” and “traitor” were heard during the address of President Mamnoon Hussain in the joint session of Parliament today.

Opposition lawmakers tried to make all out efforts to disrupt president’s speech with whistling, sloganeering and desk thumping.

However, President Mamnoon and PML-N leaders did not react to the protests.

During his address, the president said that political process should be freed from the personal interests

“For progress and development of the nation, political process should be freed from the personal interests,” he said.

Mamnoon also highlighted the achievements of the government in diverse sectors, including war against terrorism, law and order, economic challenges, power generation and agriculture.

“With increased per-capita income, Pakistan has become of the largest 25 economies of the world,” he said.

Discussing the ongoing power-crisis in the country, the president said that a lot of work needs to be done in this regard.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa, members of the Senate, National Assembly, all governors and chief ministers, and the services chiefs attended the joint session of the Parliament.
