RAWALPINDI: Foreign Minister of Russian Federation Sergey Larov, who is on a two-day visit of Pakistan, called on COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the GHQ (here today, 7th of April).
Afghan Peace Process was discussed during the rendezvous. Russian FM and COAS also pondered upon enhanced defense and security cooperation and regional security.
Russian FM acknowledged Pakistan’s achievements in the war against terrorism and contributions for regional peace and stability especially Pakistan’s sincere efforts in the Afghan Peace Process. The visiting dignitary noted that Pak-Russia terms were on a positive trajectory and would continue to develop.
COAS General Qamar Jawed Bajwa pointed out that Pakistan valued its relations with Russia and desired to enhance bilateral military cooperation: “Pakistan welcomes all initiatives which can bring peace and stability in Afghanistan as the whole region will benefit from it”, COAS maintained.
COAS made it clear that Pakistan had no hostile designs towards any country and would keep on working towards a cooperative regional framework based on sovereign equality and mutual progress.
Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov also called on Prime Minister Imran Khan here today (7th of April). Imran Khan said Pakistan attached importance to its terms with Russia Federation as a key foreign policy priority. Prime Minister said he was content at the steady growth in Pak-Russia bilateral ties, including deepening cooperation in trade, energy, security and defense.
During the rendezvous means to augment at the bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, industrial modernization, railways and aviation were pondered upon. The two sides agreed that the Inter-Governmental Commission, scheduled to meet in Moscow later this year, would closely pursue specific proposals and projects in this context.
PM Imran Khan and FM Sergey Lavrov also compared notes on the prevailing pandemic, health and economic challenges posed by it. While harboring on the subject of COVID-19 PM Imran Khan felicitated Russia for developing Anti-Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik-V. PM Imran Khan also underscored procurement plans of Sputnik-V for immunization of its populace.
Focusing on Afghanistan conflict, PM Imran Khan spoke about the importance of a negotiated political settlement of the issue. PM said Pakistan appreciated endeavors of Russia in promoting the Afghan peace process.
Briefing the visiting dignitary about the situation in IIOJK, the Prime Minister shared Pakistan’s perspective on issues of peace and security in South Asia, including the need for peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. They also talked about the prevailing state of affairs in W. Africa, the Gulf. the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific. Views were also exchanged on situation in West Asia, the Gulf, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, speaking on this occasion reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to expeditiously conclude the requisite legal process for the Pakistan Stream (North-South) Gas Pipeline project and start the work as early as possible. Prime Minister Imran Khan extended his invitation to President Putin to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
