SEJONG: South Korea said Tuesday it will begin its annual meeting with an International Monetary Fund team this week on the state of the economy and its overall economic policies.
The IMF team led by Tarhan Feyzioglu is set to meet with officials of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Fair Trade Commission, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Bank of Korea and the Financial Services Commission, as well as other private South Korean companies from Wednesday to March 11.
Feyzioglu, Korea mission chief of the IMF, is set to carry out a briefing in Seoul on March 12 after wrapping up the official visit to Asia’s fourth-largest economy.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance said South Korea’s economy could grow around 2.6 percent to 2.7 percent in 2019 amid a slowing global economy and U.S.-China trade disputes.
In January, the BOK said South Korea’s economy could expand 2.6 percent for 2019 in line with the 2019 growth projection of 2.6 percent made by the IMF. In 2018, the country’s economy grew 2.7 percent.
