SEOUL: While South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday (4th Dec, 2024) has announced lifting of Martial Law, that he had declared six hours ago, lawmakers have commenced impeachment proceedings against him.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said he had declared emergency martial law on Tuesday (3rd Dec, 2024) to safeguard “liberal South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea’s communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements”.

While helicopters landed on the Parliament’s roof, Lawmakers forced their way through the barricades and entered the Parliament to table a resolution demanding lifting of martial law. As required by the Constitution 190/300 members of S. Korean National Assembly, voted for it that was submitted by Speaker Woo Won-sik at 1:00 local time.
