Saudi assistance defence minister meets COAS, discusses security cooperation

RAWALPINDI: Saudi Arabia’s Assistance Minister of Defence Muhammad Bin Abdullah Al-Ayesh called on Chief or Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at General Headquarters on Tuesday, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing said that During the meeting views were exchanged on issues of mutual interest including defence and security cooperation between both the countries.

They also discussed the overall regional security situation, read the statement.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, on February 18, had met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and discussed the matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the two dignitaries had also discussed the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of defense. They had also discussed the military training collaboration in the meeting.

It is pertinent to mention here that the role of Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa in furthering ties between the two countries was an important driving force.

Clean and Green Pakistan: Bio degradable bags distributed among shopkeepers

DIKHAN: The District Administration under Clean and Green Pakistan drive of Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday distributed bio-degradable bags among shopkeepers and held awareness walk to sensitize masses in this regard.

The walk was arranged on special directives of Deputy Commissioner Dera Mohammad Omair, where Assistant Commissioner Paharpur and Tehsil Administration visited various bazaars and markets and appealed the masses to use bio-degradable bags for shopping and don’t dump solid waste in open environment and at road sides.

The speakers also highlighted the adverse effects of solid waste and dumping garbage in drainage lines and at road sides.

IHC disposes of Qaim Ali Shah’s bail petition

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday disposed of the bail petition of former chief minister Sindh province Syed Qaim Ali Shah after the National Accountability Bureau stated that he wouldn’t arrested in inquiry related to Thatta Sugar Mills and Dadu Sugar Mills.

A divisional bench, comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani, heard the interim bail plea of former chief minister Sindh.

At the outset of today’s hearing, NAB officials informed the bench that an inquiry related to the issue, was under process against the petitioner. However, there was no chance of his arrest at this stage, he added.

Petitioner’s counsel Farooq H. Naik stated that NAB could arrest his client at any stage in future.

Nawaz’s bail plea accepted for hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday accepted the bail petition of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for hearing and sought reply from National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A divisional bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani heard the petition of Nawaz Sharif seeking his bail in Al-Azizia Steel Mills verdict on medical grounds.

The petition had stated that Nawaz Sharif had been suffering from numerous dangerous diseases in accordance of his medical reports. The medical expert had stated that Nawaz’s condition was critical and his treatment was not possible in jail.

It stated that former prime minister’s political rivals had been propagating against him and terming his bail plea as an attempt to avail ‘NRO’, which the petition said was a contempt of court.

Nawaz stated that it wouldn’t affect the prosecution case if his sentence was suspended till final judgment on his appeal against trial court’s verdict in Al-Azizia Steel Mills case.
