ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court while wrapping up Suo Motu case today pertaining to non-payments of dues to sugarcane farmers in Punjab, directed mills owners to clear their dues to farmers as per Govt. rates.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed also directed the commissioners concerned to make sure the payments of the aggrieved farmers.
However, formers from the Sindh province would be paid Rs160/40kg sugarcane following to the high court ordered passed earlier, the bench ruled. The top court directed its registrar office to fix all the identical appeals challenging high courts decision for hearing within a month.
Justice Gulzar remarked that the court would neither pressurize mill owners for any undue favor nor let formers to suffer. However, the bench warned mill owners that the law would take its due course without any concession if the court order would not be implemented in true letter and spirit.
