ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the concerned authorities today to make Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) operational within one month and fully functional within three months.
SCP’s three member bench – comprising Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah – was hearing a case pertaining to the losses incurred by Pakistan Railways.
During the hearing Asad Umar (Fed Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives) stated that completion of the project within the given time was not possible.
When Chief Justice asked why the Karachi Circular Railway was associated with the CPEC, Asad Umar said that was due to lack of finances available.
Nevertheless, Shaikh Rasheed pledged that the operations of Karachi Circular Railways would be commenced whenever the court orders. He told the court that 85 per cent of the track for KCR has been cleared.
Court forewarned of dire consequences if the railway projects were not completed within the given timeline.
