Shireen Mazari produced before IHC, release ordered

ISLAMABAD: PTI’s former federal minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari had been produced before IHC.

Obeying the order of the Chief Justice IHC Athar Minallah (issued from his house) nabbed Shireen Mazari was brought to the court on Saturday (21st of May, 2022) at 11.30PM.

The court maintained that no member of the Parliament could be arrested without the consent of the Speaker. When it was said that she had resigned from the Parliament, the court held that no member of the PTI has yet been de-notified.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah, while maintaining that prima facie it seemed that she had been arrested illegally, ordered immediate release of Shireen Mazari. Chief Justice also directed the IGP to make sure that her cell phone and other stuff were returned.

The court also directed formation of a judicial commission to inquire into the matter and submit TOR to the Court. Nevertheless,  Anti-Corruption Department held that the case against Shireen Mazari had not finished and they would continue the inquiry against her.

Talking to the Media while walking towards the Court, escorted by Islamabad Police, Shireen Mazari said that the personnel who arrested her told her that they were following the orders of PM Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

She further said while she was on her way to somewhere when she was stopped and dragged from her car and arrested her without showing her any warrant. She further said her cellphone was also taken from her.

Chief Justice, while terming the incident as regrettable, reminded Shireen Mazari that during PTI’s government such cases of forced disappearances occurred frequently. He said that the court had been hearing such cases but the Govt did not do anything.

Earlier, Shireen Mazari’s daughter Iman Mazari had approached the IHC regarding her arrest/’kidnapping’.

It may be recalled that CM Punjab Hamza Shehbaz had ordered release of former Human Rights minister Shireen Mazari who was arrested here on Saturday (21st of May, 2022) by Anti-Corruption Dept in a case related to the encroachment of government land in Rajanpur District.

Shireen Mazari’s daughter Imaan Zainab Mazari took to the Twitter to claim: “Male police officers have beaten and taken my mother away. All I have been told is that Anti Corruption Wing Lahore has taken her.”

Journalist Hamid Mir Tweeted: “Arrest of ⁦Shireen Mazari⁩ by ⁦Police. Investigation against her started when Usman Buzdar was CM but arrested from Islamabad today. Now PML-N must clear it’s position”.

PTI Chief Imran Khan stated: “Our senior party leader Shireen Mazari has reportedly been violently abducted from outside her house by this fascist regime. Shireen is strong and fearless, if the imported govt thinks it can coerce her by this fascism, they have miscalculated!

“Our movement is completely peaceful but this fascist imported govt wants to push the country towards chaos. As if sending the economy into tailspin wasn’t enough, they now want anarchy to avoid elections. Today we will protest and tmrw after CC meeting I’ll announce our Long March”.
