Shootout at Bahariya Oasis killed 16 Egyptian policemen

CAIRO: Sixteen Egyptian policemen and fifteen militants were killed in a shootout at the road between Bahariya Oasis and Cairo in the country’s the Western Desert.

No group has claimed liability for the killings. But according to the local media reports, the militants are supporters of the Hasm Movement, which Egyptian security forces claim is related to the Muslim Brotherhood, banned group that once led the country.

Egypt has been suffering from militants uprising led by an affiliate of the Islamic State that is centered mainly in the northern region of the Sinai Peninsula.

However, country’s efforts have been questioned by a recent rise in the number of attacks on the country.
