Sindh Forest Dept. to plant 20,000 trees in SMIU Malir Campus

KARACHI: Vice Chancellor Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon on Friday said Sindh Forest Department (SFD) would provide 20,000 native plants to Malir Campus of the varsity.
He expressed these views while addressing a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) held here.
SMIU Registrar Ghulam Mustafa Shaikh, Deans, chairpersons, and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Officials from SMIU and Forest Department agreed that all possible help would be provided for the successful plantation campaign.
“One of the major challenges, Pakistan has been facing is climate change,” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon.
He said the country could overcome the prevailing situation with the help of vigorous plantation drives.
Prof. Memon said SMIU’s Environment Science Department was already offering various degree programs and conducting environmental research and studies.
Karachi’s Divisional Forest Officer, Maqsood Ahmed Memon said Sindh Forest Department has started plantation drive with the help of different government departments as part of the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project.
He said that his department would provide all technical support to SMIU during the plantation campaign.
The planting drive would start from Monday and would continue for a one-and-half month. The forest department would plant the indigenous trees, including ornamental and fruit plants.
