KARACHI: 27th death anniversary of the progressive poet, fiction writer, scholar and educationist Sheikh Ayaz, is being observed on Saturday (28th December, 2024) all over Sindh.
Born in Shikarpur as Mubarak Ali Shaikh on 2nd day of March, 1923, Shaikh Ayaz, after initial schooling opted to study law. Shaikh Ayaz, who penned 60 volumes during his career as a writer, is known for translating Shah Jo Risalo from Sindhi to Urdu.
He was appointed VC of Sindh University in 1976. Government of Pakistan bestowed Sitara-e-Imtiaz upon him in recognition of his contribution to the field of literature. Shaikh Ayaz died at the age of 74 here and was buried in the vicinity of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Mazar.
