KARACHI: Participants of the Sindh Rawadari March (representing Progressives from all over the Sindh) who converged in front of KPC – despite imposition of Section 144 – to manifest against extra-judicial killing of blasphemy suspect Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar and extremism in the Province, were baton-charged by Police here on Sunday (13th October, 2024).

Celebrated Sindhi singer Saif Samejo was slapped by the police who detained him for violating Section 144. However, lead singer of The Sketches and co-founder of the Lahooti Melo, pointed towards participants of a number of congregations in the Metropolis who were not stopped for breaking the imposed Section.

Two SHOs, 7 women constables and one other cop were suspended in response to the outcry over their highhandedness. It may be recalled that Dr Shahnawaz, accused of sharing blasphemous posts on Social Media, was shot dead in Mirpurkhas during a shootout with Police on 19th of September, 2024. Later, following an inquiry into the killing, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar proclaimed that the encounter was staged.
