CALIFORNIA: Academics from the University of California here have devised a novel way to counteract lethal snake poison more economically and efficiently than in the past.

Considering this, the study senior investigator Jeffrey O’Brien noted that the fresh anti-venom is incredibly particular to specific sorts of snakes. It has the potential to impede cell destruction.

Currently available antidote entails slow intravenous concoction at a hospital and costs approx $100,000. In addition, this merely deals with the injury caused by a petit number of species.

Their findings insinuated that they could stop the progress of the nastiest outcomes of cobras and kraits (in Asia and Africa) together with pit vipers (in North America).

Also, the prescription (requiring no refrigeration) will charge pennies on the dollar. We are pleased that this could save lives, said O’Brien.

The pundits have also pointed out that scorpions and spiders bite infections can also be thwarted through their innovation. However, they need to do more work by means of the help of resources.

The study was reported in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

P.S. It is pertinent to mention some estimates here: Snakes bite around 4.5 million people per annum. Of which, some 2.7 million suffer wounds and over 100,000 die. Most of the victims are farm workers and kids from rural zones of India and Sub-Saharan Africa.
