NOWSHERA: A suicide bomber detonated his jacket, harboring 5kgs of explosives, killing Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani and 7 others at Masjid Dar-ul-Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak area here in the front suff immediately after Namaz-e-Jumma on 28th Feb, 2025.

It is pertinent to mention here that slain Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq was son of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq Haqqani, an influential cleric belonging to Deobandi school of thought who too was stabbed to death inside his Rawalpindi house on 2nd November, 2018.

Following the assassination of his father, Hamid-ul-Haq became the VC of the the sprawling Jamia Dar-ul-Uloom Haqqania, harboring 4000 pupils. He also headed JUI-S that was founded by Sami-ul-Haq (who was also known as Spiritual Father of Taliban).

Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani had declared that barring girls from acquiring edification was anti-Islamic, that had irked many extreme-right militants. He had been to Afghanistan to meet members of Taliban government what was termed as religious diplomacy.
