SYDNEY: The 40-year-old itinerant Joel Cauchi (a local man diagnosed with a mental health issue at age 17) who killed five female shoppers and a Pakistani security guard (in 30 minutes) at the Westfield Bondi Junction Mall on Saturday (13th April, 2024) afternoon, using a 30-cm hunting knife, was shot dead by an Australian Police Inspector Amy Scott.
The victims were identified as:

1) A 30-year-old Pakistani male security guard named Faraz Ahmed Tahir. (Identified by Australian Pakistani National Association and Ahmadiyya Muslim Community).
Five women shoppers:

2) Ashlee Good (38). Ashlee Good’s nine-month-old girl and eleven others, who were stabbed, are being treated in hospital. (The baby, identified as Harriet, is recovering after a major surgery).

3) Dawn Singleton (25). Dawn Singleton (25). Tragedy struck her when she was shopping for makeup for her wedding.

4) Jade Young (47).

5) Pikria Darchia (55).
6) Unidentified yet.

PM Anthony Albanese, speaking at a Presser after the tragic incident, said that there was no indication of the motive yet: “This was a horrific act of violence, indiscriminately targeting innocent people going about an ordinary Saturday doing their shopping.”
A number of world leaders sent PM Albanese condolence messages, including Joe Biden, Rishi Sunak, New Zealand PM Christopher Luxon.


PM Albanese commended the Australian Police Inspector Amy Scott, who tracked the lone killer mid-rampage after the 30-minute stabbing spree, warned him to drop the knife, and shot him dead when he raised the blade to kill her.
Pointing towards the swift act of Amy Scott (that saved many lives), PM Albanese stated that it was, “a reminder that those people who wear uniform are people who rush to danger, not away from it”.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb, maintaining that it was not an act of terror, told the Media that 5 of the 6 victims killed were women (6th was a Pakistani male security guard). She further informed that eight people, including a nine-month-old baby, were being provided treatment at a nearby medical facility.

Police Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke confirmed that six people were killed and several others got injured.

Hundreds of shoppers ran for their lives as the lone knife-yielding killer stabbed randomly for thirty minutes.

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Foreign Affairs here has stated Sunday (14th April, 2024) that Pakistan was deeply saddened and shocked over the terrible and tragic events at Westfield Bondi Junction.
