Taliban are no more in Russia’s list of terrorists

MOSCOW: Russia, that had added Taliban to its list of terrorist organisations back in 2003, had been slowly augmenting ties with them, and finally proclaimed on Friday (4th October, 2024) that they were no more in its list of terrorists.

Although US had created and used them to disintegrate USSR, President Vladimir Putin believes that Afghanistan’s Taliban (that had seized power following departure of American forces in August 2021) are not terrorists but are Russia’s confrères in the fight against terrorism.

Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov maintained that it was not possible to discuss an Afghan settlement without (Taliban in) Kabul. During a meeting here with Afghan FM Amir Khan Muttaqi, Lavrov stated: “Moscow will continue its course on developing political, trade and economic ties with Kabul.”
